In the 7th century, King Edmond of Northumbria asked his councilor's advice about the new religion, Christianity. His councilor used the metaphor of a sparrow darting into and then back out of the warm castle to denote our brief lives and the dark stormy outdoors was before and after our lives. Christianity, he said was the only religion which addressed what was before and after life. |
